Darkest Night

Posted by the-taken Dec. 20, 2008 @ 9:25 PM EST

I'm making a second game. I'm only programming and animating this one. The game is completely based off a board game an acquaintance has invented. Here's a crappy sample:

extra life?

Posted by the-taken Nov. 29, 2008 @ 3:41 PM EST

My first game is complete, although it's not as well done as I would have liked. I had to rush finish, and drop scripted levels entirely. The only game mode is an endless gauntlet of progressively more and more powerful enemies.

The only glitch is that the flame thrower changes the sound it makes if something else makes a sound, but resets after the laser discharge. However, there are some minor gameplay issues that could be addressed if my flash trial hadn't expired. The Reaper Bomb and Cluster Bomb are porrly designed weapons, and the huge number of lives doesn't compensate for the lose of all the power ups you accumulate as you progress.

Still, it's an intense adrenaline filled vertical manic shooter. Check out Eternal Earth on Kongregate, and give it five stars for the win! If I get a high enough rating I'll make and upload the completed game with a story mode to newgrounds.

Years pass. I still suck. But I have lost weight.

Posted by the-taken Nov. 21, 2008 @ 3:18 PM EST

So , after two months of crappy flash craptation, I gave up on my older plan. Programming is hard, but getting a job is harder still. Turns out that the only people that will hire me are temp agencies for warehousing, and warehouses. Sucks to be me. And with the current economic crisis, many retail stores are tightening their belts and hiring less.
More qualified people are competing with me for less jobs. Still looking (since april) and still unemployed. So it's back to trying to make money on the internet for me.

The PLAN v2.3
1: Use kongregate's shootorials to make a wicked cool game.
2: Rent my soul to advertisers, on the condition they return it in decent condition, and half a tank.
3: Pay rent.
4: Buy full version of flash.
5: Make another game.
6: Repeat from step 2 'till I either die, or have enough money to buy a tropical island.

The only flaw in this plan is that I still can't draw.

Do not say "BLAM"

Posted by the-taken Nov. 20, 2007 @ 3:11 PM EST

So I get a PM from M-Bot (bows of respect). Interesting huh? What could I have done to get it's notice? Well, in some reviews I've typed and posted for some (awful) flash submissions turned out to violate some of the guide lines that the FAQ spell out.
Yes I read the FAQ, but there's allot there. And I guessed I overlooked this particular rule:

"Do not use reviews to express your feelings that the entry should be BLAMMED. If you post "BLAM this" or something similar you will be banned. Use the review option to tell the author how they can improve their work."

It's a strange rule, but then it kinda makes sense, as the reviews are for constructive criticism, and stating that something shouldn't be kept on Newgrounds isn't actually constructive. Also, there's going to be people that are just going spam "BLAM IT!" on everything, and we don't like those people.

So I've been making an ass of myself, harshly telling people off instead of encouraging them to put more than ten minutes of though into making a really bad, effortless crud pile, devoid of skill or talent. Seriously! 30 frames of animation, mostly a simple tween, then a 4mb music file to inflate the submission's size?

...

I was supposed to be apologizing. Sorry.

...

Newgrounds Staff and Bots: I'm sorry I broke the rules.
Not Good Flash Submitters: I'm sorry your feelings are hurt. From now on I will restrain myself and only write gentle reviews that can be used to better yourselves with.

Comming soon

Posted by the-taken Nov. 17, 2007 @ 2:27 PM EST

Hello all! I'm a new and up coming flash artist. Feeling that a warning is apropriate, I decided to post a news post. Wee!

After playing a bit with some tutorials, I'm beginning some animation experiments. Pretty soon I'll be ready to start my first project: A short animation previewing my first game. Too bad I still can't draw. :P

The Check List
1) Preview for a defence/road rage game
2) Really short but insanely hilarious joke
3) Game of the preview
4) Music Video 1
5) Dress-up Doll
6) Music Video 2
7) Preview for a shmup/platformer invovling massive amounts of blood and violence

There's my overall plan. If all goes well, people will like my work and throw money at me.
